$25 for 24 hours of entertainment ( x2) December 31, 2006

The gods must be smiling at me right now. My wife scored both seasons 4 and 5 of 24 for $25 each, at Target. She brought me 5 first, since all she had was a rain check for 4. Idiot that I am, I started watching 5 instead of giving it a day or two for her to find 4 at another store.

Of course, as soon as I had finished with DVD #2 of season 5, there she walks with the season 4 DVD set.

By the way, season 5 is packaged differently. Seasons 1-4 use fold-out inserts with DVD holders glued (same as in almost every other DVD boxed set I have). Season 5 has four really thin plastic boxes, each holds two DVDs except the last one, which holds one DVD with special features.

For $25 I can’t complain. I cringe just to think of how expensive are the Sopranos DVD sets, which only hold 13 hours of show plus special features.

Jack Bauer is coming back.

24 will air in two, 2-hour sets on Sunday January 14, 2007 and Monday January 15, 2007. We will have a running commentary in Undernet’s #asp and will probably post the transcripts here.

Can it be done? January 26, 2006

I re-watched the first two seasons of 24 over my Christmas vacation, so I would be all fired up for season 5. Now I got a long weekend standing between me and Monday’s new episode, and I am seriously considering watching season 3 over the next three days. The problem is that’s 24 hours worth of one show across just three days.

Can it be done?

I have a friend that watched 24 season two in two days, but he was pretty incoherent by the time he was done with it.

The other problem is I have already watched season three once. I don’t know if I want to watch it again so soon.

“I don’t work for CTU anymore” January 24, 2006

The shittiest mole in the history of 24 got flipped last night. I mean, that guy sucked. I was hoping that Jack Bauer would be the one to catch him in the act, maybe broke his neck or something.

Instead, Jack got a cracked or broken rib, which means that the evildoers are going to catch pure hell for messing with Jack. On top of this, the distraction phase of the season is in full blast. I say distraction because historically you don’t know the real plot until around hour 12. We have barely completed 5 hours, so this has to be a bullshit plot gimmick.

The best part was of course when they found out about the source of the conspiracy, and they pretty much shit their pants at the idea of going after the White House. All except for Jack Bauer.

His reply: “I don’t work for CTU anymore.”

The ass kicking train is coming, choo choo! I am still betting on Chuck Norris joining the show right around hour 18.

West Wing pulls Deux Ex Machina stunt, marks final glorious shark jumping January 23, 2006

Last night’s West Wing finally let me know that the show is dead. Then today it was announced that the show has been pretty much cancelled.

What happened last night amounts to a bullshit Deus Ex Machina plot device. I mean, what the fuck were they thinking? Are we THAT stupid?

After so many years of extremely good writing, this show jumped into the shark tank headfirst. It is a bloody sight to behold.

There’s slow, and there’s slow. And there’s today. Molasses move faster than this god damn Saturday.

The one thing I really wanted to do was ditch my Starving Coder’s Food Reviews and host the service myself. Problem is I can’t find one application that does it all, and I did not feel like starting it from scratch. Later in the day I decided that it may not be such a bad thing, so later I’ll see if I can write something that uses the Google Maps API and is written in either PHP or maybe use it as my excuse to starting with Python.

400 + 8 + PVR = Bored January 19, 2006

400+ channels of digital cable …

Plus 8 channels of On Demand …

Plus PVR …

Still bored. Bored enough to watch a piece of shit Japanese horror movie that I did not even pay attention the first time that I tried. I should be writing my new book instead of this but wtf?

CSI is not until 9:00 PM, and I can’t even tell if it is a new episode or a repeat. I guess I should get that book started tonight and get it over with. It is either that or actually pay attention to that piece of shit movie.

$65,000 January 19, 2006

Some moron bought a blog for $65,000. This is 30 times what that blog makes in a good month, so in order to recoup the investment said moron will have to keep it running for 30 months.

Or maybe he can synergize his core paradygms while creating shareholder value by selling his comic book collection.

Or something like that.
